Nova Scotia (Latin for New Scotland) is a Canadian province on the North Atlantic coast. Nova Scotia has an area of 55,500 square kilometres and a population of just under 940,000. Its capital is Halifax, which is home to about 350,000 people. Just fewer than 95% of Nova Scotians identify themselves as being Canadian born.
The flag of Nova Scotia, a blue saltire on a white field, is a simple reversal of the Scottish flag (a white saltire, Saint Andrew's cross, on a blue field). It also bears the royal arms of Scotland, a gold shield with a red rampant lion. Yawn, yawn...sorry, but not everyone who reads this is Canadian!
What do you call someone from Halifax? A Haligonian! It sounds like a derogatory term but that's really what they (or should I say "we") are called.
Did you know? There is no IKEA in the province of Nova Scotia. "Dum!" (that's Swedish for stupid). Even "dummer" iz da fakt dat IKEA's wooden furniture is manufactured in Cornwallis, a town located here in the Annapolis Valley (no, it's not all made in Sweden). Dat really iz "Dum"!
